Looking for spring wedding inspiration that goes beyond pastel colour palettes and flower-based cake toppers?
Well you're in the right place!
Enjoy these 11 great ideas that’ll make your springtime wedding unforgettable.
1. GIVE EVERY GUEST A PACKET OF SPRING BULBS
Sow a seed in the heart of every guest by providing them with their own spring bulbs to plant back home.
Every year their flowers bloom they'll think of you and your partner. Not to mention the wonderful time they had at your wedding.
It's a lovely, personal gift that everyone will adore.
2. BRING THE OUTDOORS IN
Spring is all about mother nature's victory over the cold winter months. The return of life, love and warmth to a land recently shrouded in ice.
So what better way to celebrate the glorious return of spring than by bringing the natural world into your wedding venue?
Centrepieces made of bluebells, snowdrops and daffodils are a great start. But there's no need to stop there...
Suspend baskets filled with beautiful blooms from the rafters. Have ivy trail down for a Victorian 'Secret Garden' vibe, or interweave fairy lights to make things magical.
Serve salads with edible flowers woven into the greens. You could even have daffodils made of icing as pre-dinner treats.
Or you could line the aisle with potted hyacinths and other spring flowers, in colours that compliment your wedding gown.
Let your imagination bloom!
3. HAVE GUESTS WEAR SPRING FLOWERS
As well as making flowers part of your venue decoration, incorporate them into your guests' wedding attire.
This could be as simple as a flower in every buttonhole and hairpiece. Or as intricate as tiaras or even dresses made entirely out of flowers and spring blooms.
4. TIE THE KNOT IN A WOODLAND
Rather than bringing the outdoors in, take your wedding outside.
In late spring many UK and American woodlands will be carpeted in bluebells. The trees will be blooming, and little songbirds will be building their nests and courting one another in the branches.
This makes a woodland a fabulously romantic location for a wedding.
But there can be legal restrictions around woodland weddings, depending on where you are in the world.
We've written a full guide about forest weddings, including their pros and cons. Give it a read and see if inspiration blooms.
5. PROVIDE SHAWLS IN CASE IT'S COLD
Spring might herald the coming of warmer months, but that doesn't mean sunshine and agreeable weather are guaranteed.
In case of cold, snow, or blustering winds, provide shawls and thick blankets for your guests.
That way they can wrap up warm and still enjoy every moment of your big day.
6. SERVE COCKTAILS & HERBAL TEAS
Spring isn't just about flowers. It's also the perfect time to detox after the excesses of winter.
That's why herbal teas are an ideal choice for your wedding drinks. Try teas that calm and relax, such as peppermint or camomile. As an added bonus their mellowing effect is sure to reduce the amount of family drama.
If herbal teas aren't your thing, why not mix up some spring cocktails?
Here are two recipes to get you started.
Green Tea Mojito
- 1 tablespoon of lime juice
- 6 mint leaves
- 3 teaspoons of sugar
- 4 ounces of brewed green tea (chilled)
- 1 ounce of white rum
Muddle the lime, sugar and mint in a glass until the leaves are lightly bruised. Add ice until glass is three quarters full. Pour in brewed green tea and white rum. Stir for one minute.
Garden Cocktail
- 2 ounces of Pimm's
- 3 mint leaves
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 strawberry (quartered)
- 4 slices of cucumber (half moon)
- Lemonade
Add ice into a glass until half full. Place three cucumber slices, the strawberry slices and mint leaves in the glass. Pour in the Pimm's and stir for ten seconds. Add teaspoon of sugar. Top up glass with lemonade and stir again for ten seconds. Garnish with the remaining cucumber slice.
7. BOOK A CLASSICAL VIOLINIST
Music is an integral part of every wedding's atmosphere. And for an elegant spring wedding, classical music is the best choice.
Pianists are often the go-to for a wedding. But if you're looking for a sound that's both refined and romantic (with a tinge of European ennui), we recommend a solo violinist.
There are many excellent violin compositions ideal for a spring wedding. Vivaldi's Spring is the perfect start.
Of course if you want something more modern, but with that special twist, ask your violinist. They're bound to have something that'll match both your musical tastes and the atmosphere of your wedding.
8. MAKE IT FAIRYTALE THEMED
Why not mix things up a little by adding an unexpected thematic element to your wedding?
From Sleeping Beauty to Little Red Riding Hood, fairytales provide ample inspiration for your spring wedding theme.
So you could go Gothic with trailing ivy, red dresses, and spinning wheel centrepieces.
Or go Cinderella and arrive in a horse drawn cart while dressed in the most gorgeous ivory ball gown imaginable.
Speaking of which...
9. WEAR A BRIDAL BALL GOWN
For a truly unique spring wedding, a normal wedding dress just won't do.
You need something impressive. A wedding dress that will make an impact.
You need a gown that embodies both your beauty and the beauty of the season.
And that's exactly what our beautiful 'Grand Lady' bridal ball gown aims to provide.
Designed and created by our talented designers at Ivory Black, this gown is guaranteed to leave your partner speechless. Tap the button to learn more.
10. ARRIVE IN STYLE ON AN ITALIAN VESPA
More European than a limousine, and less expensive than a traditional horse and cart, the Italian Vespa provides a unique and exciting way to arrive at your wedding.
Live out all your Quadrophenia fantasies and rock up at the church door with your Vespa’s engine purring away. Then ride off into the sunset after your ceremony with your partner hanging on behind.
We'd only recommend this if it hasn't been raining though!
11. GO BAREFOOT
Barefoot you say?
Indeed we do! For what better way to put yourself in touch with the awakening Earth than by going barefoot at your wedding.
There's something wonderfully freeing about having naked feet in a woodland or wedding venue, and it's a guaranteed way to add an extra layer of uniqueness to your ceremony.
Plus it’ll save you money on those expensive wedding heels…
